We recently made a Large Chalkboard Sign for a West Coast Bakery. The bakery is called Slow Rise Bakery. And every week they sell bread products at the local farmer’s market. To make the sign stronger, we added 1/4 inch all weather fir plywood to the back. This makes a strong, stiff sign. Generally, a sign mounted on a wall does need a backing board. However, we may add corner brackets to stiffen a large chalkboard sign, as well. But, let’s say it will be moved a lot. The chalkboard can moved and used without worry about breakage.
